I've worked in TV for over 30 years in all editorial roles from Runner through to Executive Producer and I have been based in Scotland for 17 years.

Throughout my career I’ve worked in a variety of genres including Ents, Features, Daytime and Children’s and across different formats; Studio Gameshows, Location based Fact Ents, Property, Panel Shows, Ob docs, Challenge Formats, Travelogues and Magazine Shows. I have experience producing in both live and pre-recorded situations, in studio and location based environments.

Having moved up to Scotland in 2007 as a Development Producer for BBC Scotland Children’s Development team, I stayed to Series Produce a commission I'd secured.... and have never left!

Whilst at BBC Scotland Children's department, I worked as a Development Producer, Series Producer and Executive Producer, until I took the decision to go freelance in 2015.

Since then I've worked as a freelance Series Producer and Executive Producer for many independent production companies including; Hungry Bear Media, Ricochet, Raise the Roof Productions, Objective Media Group Scotland, Firecracker Films, Firecrest Films and Lion TV, producing Fact/ Ents and Ents content for Daytime, primetime and Children’s on Channel 4, More 4, BBC Scotland, BBC 3 and CBBC.

I joined Hungry Bear in 2022 as the Executive Producer for their Glasgow office and am lucky enough to Exec Produce across a number of titles, including the reboot of the hit Saturday night BBC 1 series Gladiators, as well as Gladiators: Epic Pranks for CBBC. I have also Exec Produced David and Jay's Touring Toolshed (BBC2) with Sir David Jason and Jay Blades, and Channel 5 Series - Jay Blades: Through Time.

Before joining Hungry Bear, I was a Commissioning Executive in the Lifestyle and Entertainment Team at Warner Bros Discovery UK, working with numerous indies, developing new commissions as well as existing content, for Discovery + and linear channels - Really, Quest Red, HGTV, Food Network and TLC, which gave me a great insight into Commissioning from a broadcasters perspective and I believe has strengthened my Executive Producing abilities.

Prior to moving to Scotland I was a Series Producer and Director for many large Independent production companies, including RDF, Ricochet and Talkback Thames, producing and directing on many lifestyle format Fact/Ents series; including Wife Swap, It’s Me or The Dog, How Not to Decorate. My P/D experience gave me a strong grounding in story- telling (both during scripting stage and post production), sound editorial judgement and the ability to manage big personalities.

As an Executive Producer in BBC Scotland's Children's Dept, I also headed up the Development Department for CBBC and successfully won and Exec Produced many new commissions across different genres; All Over The Place (Comedy Travelogue), Who Let The Dogs Out? (Fact/Ents challenge series), Super Human Challenge (Factual), Blow Your Mind (Factual), OOglies (BAFTA winning Comedy Animation), Comic Relief Does Glee Club (Entertainment). Most of the above series went on to be returning formats.

Since leaving BBC Scotland I have Series Produced many first time series; World of Weird (Ch 4), Phil Spencer's History of Britain in 100 Homes (More 4), Best of Both Worlds (Ch 4 - Daytime), Life Hacks Hoax (BBC 3), Last Commanders (CBBC). Working closely with Commissioners and Executive Producers, shaping these new the formats, setting tones and styles and always delivering quality output, I have built up good relationships with a number of commissioners across a variety of genres.

I regard myself as a clear and concise ‘middle man'. I'm able to communicate the heart of an idea to Commissioners and Creative Directors and am quick to understand different Commissioners wants and needs. I'm able to understand the bigger picture and clearly translate different requirements to a team, either in Development or Production.

Having worked in Scotland for over 16 years I have built up a large network of contacts, which is invaluable when developing, staffing and scheduling.

I have had a lot of experience building and managing teams of varying sizes and abilities. I'm decisive and problem-solving, I have exacting standards for my team and myself, but still allow room for creative interpretation and encourage others around me to approach opportunities and challenges laterally. I thrive on developing ideas and turning them into a reality. As a creative, problem-solving, lateral thinker, I can not only originate fresh ideas, but, due to my production experience in a wide variety of genres, I am able to fully develop them, with workable running orders, staffing structures, schedules and budgets. I have sound editorial judgment and a strong ability to cut through, knowing what is and isn’t relevant to a story and the best way to achieve it.

My experience as both an Executive Producer and Series Producer has given me a robust understanding of Editorial Guidelines, Health and Safety, Data Protection and Child Protection guidelines and I can confidently ensure that any content I develop or work on, complies fully with  editorial guidelines and standards.

As a result of my specialism in Children’s TV I’m confident working with children of different ages and am fully across all the extra measures (licenses, working hours, data protection, chaperones etc) that need to be taken into account when developing or producing shows that include younger contributors.

I strive to be inclusive and diversity is always high on my agenda. I have epilepsy, so have first hand experience of working within the TV industry with a disability. Currently my condition is well managed with medication (I am able to drive and do not have any specific requirements) but that has not aways been the case and I'm acutely aware that people might require specialist equipment or adjustments to thrive, whether working on the production team or on screen.

In 2021 I produced the BBC's Best Practice Diversity Session with Raise the Roof and in 2014/2015, whilst an Executive Producer at BBC Scotland. I jointly led the BBC Staff Disability Forum, a pan BBC Initiative and liaised with the other groups across the whole BBC.

Since moving to Scotland I've become passionate about the Scottish TV Industry. As a member of RTS Scotland and have Chaired the 'Children's' Jury and was a Jury member for 'Documentaries' in 2020. I enjoy helping nurturing new talent, both on and off screen and mentored two mentees on the ‘ScreenSkills Mentoring’ programme.
